Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Level 2 background check?
A Level 2 background check is a fingerprint-based criminal history check that searches both Florida (FDLE) and federal (FBI) databases. It's required for anyone working with children, the elderly, or vulnerable populations — including teachers, healthcare workers, and volunteers.
What is an ORI number and do I need one?
ORI stands for Originating Agency Identifier. It's a code assigned to the agency or employer requiring your background check, and it tells the system exactly where to send your results. Your employer, licensing board, or agency will provide this to you before your appointment. If you're unsure, contact them directly — we can also help point you in the right direction.
What is a TCN number?
A TCN (Transaction Control Number) is a unique number assigned to your fingerprint submission after it's been processed. You can use it to look up the status of your background check through the FDLE website. We provide your TCN number after your appointment so you can track your results.
How long does it take to get my results?
Most results are returned within 24–72 hours after submission. Turnaround can vary by agency, but electronic LiveScan submission is the fastest method available.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Just a valid government-issued photo ID — such as a driver's license, state ID, or passport. Make sure the name on your ID matches exactly what your employer or agency has on file. You'll also need your ORI number from whoever is requiring the check.
How long does the appointment take?
Most appointments are completed in 15 minutes or less.
What if my fingerprints get rejected?
Our rejection rate is less than 2%, but if it happens we'll reprint you at no additional charge.
